13th Birthday Party Ideas

Thirteenth birthday party ideas are not always easy to come up with. Parents and children tend to disagree a lot around this age and it can be hard to find a party that is childlike without being too childish. There are some thirteenth birthday party ideas, however, that are fun and more mature.

Lucky 13

Many people think of the number thirteen as an unlucky number. Instead, have a casino party where winning requires a lucky thirteen. You can play bingo with ‘bingo’ being a thirteen instead of a diagonal line, corners, or blackout. You can set up a card table where instead of playing twenty-one, you play thirteen. Let the children bet tokens that can be redeemed for prizes. Some prize ideas are a bag of gold coin candies or a deck of cards.

Movie Party

Let your child pick his or her favorite movie and then create a party theme around that movie. Make invitations look like movie tickets with the ticket details replaced with the party details. Use red poster board or butcher paper for a red carpet leading up to the door and balloons in gold or silver for Hollywood glamour. Turn the birthday cake into a movie screen, an old fashioned video camera, or something iconic from the movie. Create trivia questions based on the movie and play a game where the person who wins gets a pair of movie tickets for a later date. You can also have all of the children spread out on the floor and watch the movie with typical movie fare such as popcorn, candy, and soda.
If your new teen doesn’t like any of the 13th birthday party ideas that you have come up with ask him or her to give you three ideas. Between your teen’s imagination and you own you should be able to throw a fantastic party.
